Mercatini di Natale di Santa Maria Maggiore is a traditional Christmas market in the heart of Valle Vigezzo, held every year around the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and considered one of Piedmont’s best-known winter events. The historic centre of Santa Maria Maggiore turns into a long festive route with more than 200 carefully selected exhibitors.

The stalls offer handmade products, Christmas decorations, wooden crafts, ceramics, textiles and original gifts. Local gastronomy is an important part of the event, with vin brulé, the famous caffè vigezzino, roasted chestnuts, traditional stincheet and other mountain specialties. The streets and squares are decorated with understated Christmas lights, while one of the market’s distinctive features is the small stoves made from fir trunks, where visitors can warm up as they stroll through the village.
