Grotta di Babbo Natale di Ornavasso is a family Christmas event held since 2009, combining a nature walk, festive installations and a meeting with Santa Claus inside a real underground cave.
The experience begins in the centre of Ornavasso. From here, visitors can travel up towards the Chiesa della Guardia on the Renna Express tourist train, then continue through the Bosco dei Twergi and the Villaggio degli Elfi, where Christmas shows and themed installations create a magical atmosphere. The final part of the route leads about 200 metres into the mountain, where children can meet Santa Claus inside the cave. The programme also includes Christmas decorations, Nativity scenes, family activities and dedicated rest areas. The visit can also be combined with a trip to the Santuario del Boden, where the Mille Presepi dal Mondo exhibition is held.
In 2026, the Grotta di Babbo Natale is open on 21, 22, 28 and 29 November; 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 26 December. Advance booking is strongly recommended, especially for weekends and the Immaculate Conception holiday period, as tickets are sold for specific time slots and prices increase as availability decreases. Visitors should arrive at Piazza XXIV Maggio at least one hour before the booked Santa Claus meeting time.
