Rosario Fiorito is one of Alagna Valsesia’s most evocative Walser traditions, dating back to 1683. Held every year on the first Sunday of October, the ancient devotional procession takes place in the mountain landscape at the foot of Monte Rosa and combines religious tradition with the cultural heritage of the local Walser community.

In 2026, Rosario Fiorito will take place on Sunday, 4 October. Participants gather in the early afternoon, at around 13:30, at the small chapel beneath the Flua rock face, along the trail to Rifugio Barba-Ferrero. From there, the procession descends through the alpine pastures of Safejaz, Blatte, Bitz, Pile and Stigu towards the Church of Sant’Antonio.

Along the route, seven traditional stops are made for the mysteries of the Rosary, accompanied by songs and prayers in the Walser language. The procession ends at the flower- and candle-decorated Church of Sant’Antonio, followed by Holy Mass and the singing of the Te Deum. Traditional Walser costumes, mountain flowers and the spectacular autumn scenery of Monte Rosa make this much more than a religious ceremony — it is a rare opportunity to experience Alagna’s living Walser heritage.
